(올드스톤의 느끼는 산사 이야기) 강진 운주사 와불을 보다
날이 저물기 전에 와불을 보러 능선위로 올랐다. 산위에서 보는 운주사의 전경은 멋있었다. 와불은 대웅전에서 오른 편에 있는 능선 위해 있었다. 왼쪽의 능선에는 탑들이 여기저기 서 있었다. 오른쪽 능선으로 올라가는 길에도 마치 키다리 아저씨 같은 모습을 한 탑들이 여기저기 서 있었다. 한 10분 남짓 걸었을까 ? 마침내 능선위에 와불이 보였다. 가만히 가서 보니

(올드스톤의 느끼는 산사 이야기) 강진 운주사의 석불과 불탑의 의미를 살짝 비틀어 해석해 보면
조금만 있으면 날이 어두워질 것 같아서 서둘러 절 주변을 돌아보았다. 우선 눈에 띄는 것은 탑이었다. 우리나라에는 동그란 모습의 탑은 별로 없다. 4각형 아니면 6각형 혹은 8각형의 탑을 보았던 것 같다. 그런데 운주사의 탑은 둥근 모습을 한 것이 특색이었다. 그렇게 둥근 모습은 나로하여금 마치 인도의 탑과 비슷한 것 같은 느낌을 갖게 만들었다. 단순하게 실험적인

(올드스톤의 느끼는 산사 이야기) 화순 운주사의 불상들
계곡으로 난 길을 죽 따라 가자면 오른 편 절벽밑으로 군데군데 부처상들이 놓여져 있다. 그런데 부처상이 좀 이상하다. 세개에서 많게는 여섯개 정도가 같이 놓여져 있다. 가만히 보면 부처들 모습이 모두 다 다르다. 큰 것이 있고 작은 것이 있다. 자세히 보면 남자같은 모습도 있고 여자같은 모습도 있고 어린아이 같은 모습도 있다. 그러고 보면 불상들이 가족같다.

운주사 가는 길은 멀다. 한번 가려면 마음을 단단히 먹어야 한다. 그래도 가는 길이 아름다워서 지루하지는 않다. 천태산 주변의 풍광은 다른 곳과 조금 다르다. 남도의 향취가 이렇구나 하고 느끼게 한다. 가는 길에 있는 조그만 마을들은 향수를 느끼게 한다. 마치 1970년대의 모습이 그대로 남아 있는 곳도 있다. 언제 다시 와서 사진을 찍어야 하겠다는 생각도
