Denmark has one of the highest COVID case rates in the world, 3x higher than the US Omicron peak.

They're ending all restrictions immediately. It's exactly the right move.

First image: Case rates, showing Denmark's absolutely out-of-control numbers, with perhaps 20% of the country currently infected.

Second image: Cumulative COVID deaths per capita. Denmark has been extremely good from the start.

Third image: Excess deaths as % of normal. Denmark's small COVID deaths barely outweigh the reduction in flu deaths. Their overall death rate for the pandemic is 1% above normal, the US is 14% above normal.

Fourth image: This is why it's the right move. Due to extremely high vax rates (>60% boosted, especially elderly), they've broken the links from cases to deaths and long COVID. Cases are unbelievably high, hospitalizations are fairly high, yet ICU rates are falling and deaths have likely peaked. Denmark has literally gotten COVID down to "like the flu".

If the US had Denmark's case rate, with our lackluster booster uptake even among 65+, our healthcare system would have collapsed. We'll have to wait another month before we can follow Denmark's lead.

It will be interesting to see how the blue states respond to the data in late February. (Washington state should end their indoor mask mandate, etc.)
