New chicks on the block

Seven years ago we got our first chickens. We converted the old playhouse into a coop and fenced in a piece of the garden. The last of those four chickens died last year and this year we decided it's time for some more. The neighbour and I did some work on the run and today we picked up four new ladies from the local chicken dealer.

At first they were reluctant to come out of the box.

They were soon exploring their new home. They still need to work out how to get into their house, but we'll help them with that when it comes time for them to go to bed. We went for four different hybrid breeds. They should all lay different coloured eggs and some should be green!

Chickens

They have plenty of space. We could have a dozen or more in this space, but we don't need that many eggs. We should get around three eggs each day. There's enough netting to keep predators out. There are foxes around, but they never tried to get in before.

Coop

The chicken place has a pair of rheas, but they are not for sale.

Steem on!
