Waiting for the result of the RM Sotheby's Paris sale, I'm going to speak about the next Bonhams sale : Les Grandes Marques du Monde in Paris (March 3rd) with some great cars. Generally, I try to avoid talking about the same model twice in row but I couldn't resist seeing the first owner of this 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Type 964 cabriolet owned by the most flamboyant soccer player of all time, Diego Maradona who left us too early last November. History of Porsche 911 Type 964

The Porsche Type 964 was the name (internal code name) of the 911 produced between 1989 and 1994. It was almost a new model with a design penned by Benjamin Dimson (read this interesting article if you want know more about this Filipino designer on autoindustriya.com). Porsche claimed the car was over 85% new.

Today, I'll more speak about the owner than the car. This 1992 Porsche 911 Type 964 Carrera 2 Works Turbo Look Cabriolet was bought by Diego Maradona, El Pibe de Oro, in November 1992 during his transfer to Sevilla for 750 million of pesetas (around 5,000.000 euros... not much when you think about the amounts of player transfers now).

Known to Seville fans, this Porsche was regularly spotted during Diego Maradona's many practice and also proved that his right foot was as powerful on the gas pedal as his left foot was on the ball, as he was arrested after jumping a red light and driving at 180 kmh through the city center (source : Bonhams). 😀 This year in Seville wasn't a success, it was his last season in Europe.
