As promised, here are the results of the RM Sotheby's Arizona Sale that took place online on Friday 22 January. They're quite good with 90% of the cars sold for more than $US 35 million but no big craziness. A first preview with the cars presented during the last weeks on Hive :

+ the Shelby GT 350 has disappeared from the sale... maybe the seller has changed his mind and prefers to keep this marvel in his garage... and I completely understand him 😀
The star of the sale was obviously the red 1955 Jaguar D-Type sold for $US 6,000,000 :
Only 53 customer cars and with its impressive pedigree : successes on the race tracks and owned by Bernie Ecclestone, the British racer Peter Blond and the Led Zeppelin Manager Peter Grant... The price could have been higher.
The second highest price was also a rare car, 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC Tourer by Corsica, only 8 examples with a coach work done by Corsica and even rarer, only 2 with 4 seats. The Bugatti was sold for $US 4,735,000 :
I didn't write a post on this car because my knowledge of pre-war cars is still limited. But seeing wonders like this gives the motivation to dive into the automotive history of those years. And just for the pleasure of the eyes some additional photos :
Other pre-war cars found takers with prices around one million dollars :
1932 Cadillac V-16 Convertible Coupe by Fisher sold for $US 1,022,500 (today only 4 known examples)
1933 Packard Twelve Individual Custom Convertible Sedans by Dietrich sold for $US $819,000
For modern cars, the sale went as well :
- 2020 McLaren Speedtail was sold for $US 3,277,500 with only 30 miles. Supercars are almost becoming investment products. With only 106 examples produced, new, the car was sold for $US 2,400,000 without options. But this examples was higly optioned by MSO finished in Atlantic Blue.
- 2019 McLaren Senna sold for $US 1,044,000. Only 500 examples built and this example has Carbon Fiber coachwork.
- and also 2019 Ford GT Lightweight for $US 967,500.
- but 2019 Koenigsegg Regera is still for sale with a price tag of $US 2,700,000 :
Interested ? 😀
For the cars where I have the most interest (especially at the design level), from the 50's to the 70's, sales were good too with the two Ferrari : 375 America Coupe by Vignale and 250 GT Alloy Coupe by Boano. You can see my post about them if you want more information.
Last but not least, a stunning 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster finished in green metallic was sold for more than 1 million :
My favorite car with the Gullwing door...
