1965 Ferrari 275 GTS

After the RM Sotheby's Arizona Sale (you can see the results on my last post), we're looking to Legends of the Road sale hosted by Bonhams in London, the February, 19th. We start out smoothly with a classic convertible car penned by Pininfarina, the 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS :

With an estimated price around $ 1 million, the 275 GTS is considered one of the ten Greatest Ferraris of all time by Motor Trend Classic in 2005 (source : A Perfect 10: The Greatest Ferraris Of All Time) and with these photos, you understand why šŸ˜€.

History of Ferrari 275

In 1963, Ferrari wanted to replace the 250 GT series by a new model. Just a reminder about this model with this pic :

The Ferrari 275 was presented at the 1964 Paris Motor Show in two models :

šŸš— GTS designed by Pininfarina,
šŸš— GTB (Gran Turismo Berlinetta) designed by Scaglietti (photo below).

The two models were completely different as you can see with the uncovered headlamps, triple-louvered fenders, a tapered rear end... Only 200 GTS examples were built between 1964 and 1966.

The 275 GTS, an open spider, was more luxuous and confortable than its predecessors with wider seats and wood veneer dashboard. But the driving experience remained the same as it's the essence of the brand of that time : agressive charm.

This example (chassis 07171) was one of only 19 right-hand drive produced for the UK market.

"The instant the clutch is engaged, the chassis takes on life and begins to move as a unit with the engine, it's an all-in-one-piece sensation that you normally feel only in racing cars, one that's unique to the Ferrari among normal passenger vehicles today." - Car & Driver (magazine, 1964).

This model fully restored in 2012 in its original configuration is finished in dark metallic blue with black leather interior.

If you could afford it, would you be ready to welcome it in your garage?
