History of Porsche 911 / Porsche 930

When Porsche wanted to improve its 365, a completely new model has to be created for more space for the occupants and storage for all set of golf clubs. Ferdinand Porsche, the eldest son of Ferry Porsche was in charge of the design while his cousin Ferdinand Piëch developped the engine. The new model was presented at Frankfurt Auto Show in 1963 as the 901 but thanks to Peugot changed to 911. I like this anecdote : Porsche thought that Peugeot claimed the right to three-digit car with zero in the middle.

The Porsche 930 aka Porsche 911 Turbo was the top range of the 911 models between 1975 and 1989. The model is rather in North America because Porsche had to stop its sake from the beginning because its engine didn't meet the US requirements. In 1984 thanks to electronic, the Turbo was back on US roads.

The Flat Nose (Flachbau) is due to a collector, TAG Heuer co-owner Mansour Ojjeh, who wanted to have a Porsche Type 935 racing car but homologated for the road.

The Porsche Exclusive department create a more racing design with this lowered and aerodynamic nose. This coachwork was available in March of 1987.

Specification

This Flat-Nose Cabriolet (option 505) is equipped with Type-930.68 engine producing 282 hp. The car can reach 100 kmh in just 5 seconds with a top speed of 242 kmh / 150 mph. Only 114 Turbo Cabriolet Flat Nose were sold in North America in 1988.

I like this design with the retracting headlamps and the large rear spoiler (a rather expensive option, price tag $23,000 😅). This example is finished in Guards red over Champagne leather interior with all the options.

Very well maintained, I wonder at what price it'll sell... Rare but with a particular design that not everyone will like. But this summer to go to the beach, I can't think of anything better 😀

What do you think of this beauty ?
