@mcfarhat was just on with @pennsif discussing the State of Steem.
During the discussion, he announced that the @actifit team is in discussion with Garmin enabling holders of the AFIT token to by Garmin products with it.
He was clear that this is not a done deal yet and it is still the early stages. Nevertheless, this is showing some of the possibilities that are out there for some of the applications that are being built on the Steem blockchain.
Looking at their website, Garmin has hundreds of different products. They cover fields such as aviation, marine, wearables, and automotive. This is a company that has decades of experience and is name that is known globally.
While it is not time to get too excited, it is encouraging that a company such as this has an interest in an application on the Steem blockchain. It just shows the potential that some on the outside see. One of the biggest advantages to Steem is the community we have. If we can keep consistently adding users from all the different sources we have, we should see a lot of attention come our way.
In the end, becoming the focus of the traders and pump/dump guys holds little interest to me. For STEEM to be maximized, we just need to keep building. What will keep Steem going forward for years on end is getting real businesses active on here. When companies have a vested interest in the Steem community, it puts a strong floor on what can happen.
Actifit is one of my favorite applications on this blockchain. One of the main reasons is the team that is behind the development and their plans for the future. This just shows what is possible when we expand out scope beyond the blogging realm. Using Steem as a Proof of Activity mechanism is proving to be a valid methodology. Couple this with an application like this putting together a business plan that reaches beyond the walls of the Steem ecosystem and it is easy to see the potential here.
There are hundreds of millions of people globally who are into fitness and exercise. This is a market that is simply enormous. The Actifit application already integrates with Fitbit, a fitness monitoring application that has over 25M users.
Garmin is presently the number 5 manufacturer of wearable technology in the world. They experienced a 4.1% growth year over year. This means that the Actifit application will be integrated with the #3 and #5 ranked wearables.
