Ararawan ken Abal-abal, Ilocano exotic food!

Traveling around the Philippines let you experience and learn something that you never get from school. And like other ethnic, Ilocano people comes with there own variety of exotic food. The photo above are the Ararawan "Mole Cricket" and Abal-abal "Horn Beetle". Usually it serve roasted and while other stew it on tomato.

What is Ararawan?
It also known as Mole Cricket, usually this creature live in swampy area burrowing themselves underground and feed roots of plant to survive. Here in Neuva Ecija, farmer catch them while they plowing the wet field.

What is Abal-abal?
It also known as Horn Beetle. Usually they found burrowing themselves on Silag tree and suck on the soft tissue of the poor tree. Sometimes, you can found them in group on citrus tree, okra fruit and other fruit bearing trees.
