Big Bend National Park - 3 Men, 1 Landrover, 5 Days of Adventure.

Back in December my two best friends and I decided to leave the world behind for a week and have ourselves a journey. From St. Louis, MO we hit the highway in a Discovery 3 Landrover loaded down with camping gear, dehydrated food, an ample supply of beers, compasses, maps, and 3 smiling faces. My profile picture is from this trip... as is the tattoo on my forearm (which we all 3 got matching versions of) and it stands as one of the best times I have ever had in my life.

Here is a photo gallery, taken at different times by all 3 of us, of our adventure.

The 3 Amigos (I'm the climber in the group up on top.)

Our Chariot

"Would you put the damn camera down for a minute and just get down here and make breakfast..."

The lack of ground fires was pretty frustrating (even though understandable) when the nights got damn near arctic.

#Serenity

It was gray and cool pretty much the entire time we were there... except for when it was dark and storming (see below)...

An Oasis!!!

The interrogations by DHS later were a real damper on things... ;-)

As camp cartographer I would like to point out that setting a map and compass on a metal car hood is a great way to end up very confused about where you are.

Following rules was never really my strong suit...

Thus punishment was had...

Coat of pain, a little oil... she'll be good as new!

Swam to Mexico and back... not 100% sure how that lands on the scale of legality...

Hot Springs! Good for soaking the muscles after days in the desert.

Remember when I mentioned that storm? Yeah... hail, floods, rains... we didn't get a lot of pictures, we were busy trying to not die.

Post-Storm meal... once we could get out and cook it.

Ok... maybe 1 ground fire. We know... but we were freezing, and wet, and very careful.

Ink work done... brothers in arms.

And that's the gist of it... we took more, including some video, but these are the highlights. If you ever have the chance, I highly suggest it. It an experience like few others. But go with people you love and trust, and by the end you'll be even closer than you had been before.
