'Half Light or Half Shade'

The eternal question about the water in a glass was, and will always be: "Is the glass half empty or half full?" Does a person see only the adversities of life or is he/she more aware of the positive? Let's take a look at it a bit deeper. If the glass was empty, there would be no need for the personal point of view because everyone would immediately see that "shit has already hit the fan". On the other hand, if a glass was full, would a person ever doubt it? Well, believe it or not, some of us would. Some are not happy even when the glass is full and are not able to recognize it before it's too late. The saying, unfortunately, presumes that life is always at "half" something and that the compromise is always the golden middle road. Would you agree?

If you agreed you're wrong! :D I'm only trying to confuse you. The saying is actually spot on the mark and is not presuming anything. Our perspective is the only thing defining our reality. The assumption 'half' relates to any situation that can be observed as a blessing or a curse. Clouded by judgements, we are usually lacking objectivity in our thoughts and mostly see what we like to see.

Now, what does all this have to do with my photograph? :D

Before I answer, let's take a closer look. The composition is central, closed with a dominant element, a circle that is cut into two parts. The light one and the darker one. The corners are vignetted, contrast is moderate, colours are washed out. The greenish colour on the dark part is signifying that something is wrong.

Now, the answer. The shallow hole is full of water and the only thing changing with our perspective is whether the water is half shaded or half lit. This puts the water story in a different perspective. It is full all the time. We can metaphorically move left or right and by doing so define the amount of shade that we find appropriate. So, there are no halves. Total freedom of choice. Shade everything if you like, I prefer the light! :D

Don't miss the little light area pushing in the shaded part, right there in the middle and a tiny white stone in the bottom left. ;)

Enjoy!
