Good day dear Hive Community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my contribution and hope you had a day full of positive events! Today I would like to bring a mineral a little closer and hope you can expand your knowledge.

You can see here a specimen of Smectite and it is a group of minerals from which one or the other may have already heard of and is often used in the medical field and it is also counted among the layered silicates. It is also often referred to as a collective name of clay minerals and the formation can be mainly attributed to weathering by basalt and the designation probably comes from the Greek and can be traced back to the word smectos and from the structure it often consists of three layers and can swell by the influence of water and can expand to a multiple size. Due to this structure, it is also of interest for detoxification and can well neutralize toxic substances and is often used as a component in healing earth as well as other medicines and it is probably also interesting that when it is absorbed orally it sticks to the mucous membrane of the stomach and is therefore a good protection against foreign pathogens and can thus protect against different influences. There are already some studies on smectite and the area of application is far larger and it is also interesting in other areas when it comes to controlling germs and as always I would like to mention that in case of illness you should always ask your doctor about the right medicine!
