In the city of Nafplio in Greece, you can find a lot of architectural interests. One of it is Bourtzi, a small fort on an island just outside their harbour. It was finished around 1473 by venetians.

The main role was to protect the city from sea invaders, such as pirates. Later on, Greeks took it from the Turks. After a while, the fortress became the place for executioning convicts. From late 30s to late 70s, it was used as a hotel.

Now it is one of the greatest tourist attraction of the city.
