Baby Birds in their Nest!

A few months ago I noticed a small bird building her nest under our porch awning. Mama bird picked a great spot. We had some serious winds that blew down tree branches and tons of palm fronds, but her nest was just fine. When I spotted Dad I was able to figure out that they are House Finches. The male has bright red feathers on his head and chest. Apparently the females select the males with the brightest red markings to mate with.

Another cool fact I read is that the oldest known House Finch was 11 years, 7 months old! Let’s hope these babies have long and happy lives. Thanks for reading.

(This is Dad in the tree facing the nest. Not a great shot, but he’s there!)
