Splinterlands: Upgrading my high level cards using proceeds from foundation cards sale (Part 2)
WITHERED OLD SAGE UPGRADED TO LV.6.
Good morning Summoners! This is @zusi78.
In one of my previous posts, I displayed some Foundation cards that I listed for sale. You can check the post here. From those few sales, I was able to upgrade my Ballista Deadshot from Lv.1 to Lv.3. When I logged into my account today, I found out that some of my listed cards for sale have been bought.
On checking my DEC balances, I had 2,084.764 DEC from card sales and 495.591 DEC on my Hive Engine from a transfer. After moving everything to in-game, I now have a total of 2,580.355 DEC (Dark Energy 🔮).
I had to buy 16 copies of the card to achieve this feat, and the DEC for the purchase came mainly from the sales of my foundation cards.
Splinterlands is no walk in the park, but that's what amps up the excitement.A winning strategy weighs stas, abilities, rulesets, mana caps, and beyond. That's why you must factor them all into your deck building.Toss in strong cards to boost your setups, and push hard to rack up as many victories as possible! 🔥.
Now,back to the featured card, let me do a little card review and why I am happy to getting the Old Withered Sage to level 6.
Card Overview.
At maximum level, the Withered Old Sage stands as a fully realized 6-mana Rare Fire monster of the Drakoshan bloodline. Its combat profile is finely tuned: 3 Magic Attack, 4 Speed, 3 Armor, and 5 Health.
The 3 points of Magic Attack give it reliable offensive pressure against both armored and unarmored targets. Combined with a solid Speed of 4, it frequently acts early enough in the round to land its strikes before slower threats can respond. The 3 Armor provides meaningful mitigation against Physical damage, while the 5 Health offers just enough durability for it to survive long enough to trigger its signature abilities.
Together these numbers create a balanced mid-range Magic attacker—sturdy enough to absorb punishment, quick enough to strike first, and strong enough to matter on the board. When fully leveled, the Withered Old Sage is no longer a fragile support piece but a resilient, multi-layered threat capable of weathering Magic assaults, delivering a Spite-powered counterattack on death, and returning via Resurgence with full Health and Armor restored.
Abilities. Describing from left to right
The card’s strength comes from its unique combination of abilities, which unlock progressively with levels:
Void (available relatively early, at Level 2): Void Reduces incoming Magic damage by 50%. Attacks of only 1 Magic power deal no damage. This makes it highly effective against Magic-heavy teams.
Spite (At Level 6 precisely): When defeated, it performs a guaranteed counterattack (100% chance). This “final blow” can finish off weakened enemies.
Resurgence (at max Level 8 ): Once per battle, the unit self-resurrects with 100% Health and Armor. Magic buffs are reapplied and debuffs are removed. It skips its normal attack on the revival round but deals 1 Physical damage to all units (allies and enemies).
This trio abilities creates a resilient, disruptive presence: it tanks Magic damage, retaliates on death, then returns stronger while spreading minor board-wide Physical damage. I am so happy to have this card at level 6 at the moment. I would certainly take it to max level.
My journey of card collection and upgrade continues. That would be all for know, see you in battlefield.
Fellow Summoners,
This is my own strategy.
I level up Foundations cards through consistent Frontier play, then sell the upgraded or max-level ones. The DEC from those sales doesn’t sit idle — I put it straight into higher-level cards from Rebellion, Conclave Arcana, and Escalation. The same cards that actually decide Modern and Wild matches.
It’s not flashy. It’s not instant. But over time it becomes almost automatic — a steady cycle of grind, sell, upgrade, and grow. Patience and consistency turn the free-to-play foundation into real power across the rest of the game.
This is what long-term progress looks like for me in Splinterlands. No shortcuts. Just the satisfaction of watching cards I raised myself open the next door.
Keep fighting. The battlefield rewards those who stay the course.
