Someone else won MY lottery jackpot!!!!
I did not have any of the winning numbers for the Jan 5th Megamillion drawing when I checked the numbers last night. I was dissapointed. I woke up this morning hopeful that I had another chance on the

Something beautiful from this brutal weather at the start of a new year.
The ice on the inside of the back door window was not unexpected. How beautiful it is was. It is a result of my trying to keep my house warmer by letting a pan of water simmer on the stove. I had made

What to do with frozen garlic tops? Make imitation chives of course.
The fall here in eastern Nebraska was warm. It was shirt sleeve weather for 80% of the days up to mid December. I plan ahead and plant garlic in a pot to start growing before it gets warm outside because

Krampus Kandy. What it is and how to make it.
If you haven't heard of Krampus he is the opposite of Santa. Krampus is a horned figure described as half-goat, half-demon. Krampus travels about Germany with St Nicholas who rewards the good children

My boarding house and rooms for wayward boys.
It has been a while since my last post. Life has a way of messing with plans. Because of the need for more money to stay in my home, I now have 2 roommates. The first has lived with me for a year now.

I think I have been switched with another person.
Today started out early with a phone call about medicare suplemental insurance. It was followed by three more calls from other insurance carriers trying to sell me their version during the day. The joys

Feathers are a necessary evil.
I grew up in the city. Not all my memories are about city living. Almost like a farm kid I lived in a 3 room house with a sink and a water heater electricity and outhouse. We had a large 1/4 acre garden.

A life lost
Today I am sad. Not for me but for a friend. I will do what I can to help her through what is to come. She will help her sister get throught it some how. Life is not fair. It shows us how little control

Becareful what you wish for. It sucks when yout get it.
I had a lot of hair as a kid. When I had my hair cut the lady would use a pair of thinning shears to cut down the bulk. I had the usual teen age experiments with tweezers and razors and hair removal creams.

Lost pregnant or hurt, they find their way to my back yard
Walking from the garage to my back door after running errands I saw them. The black one had short hair and very bright yellow eyes. He, I think it is a he, walked out of the yard keeping an eye on my every

Step away from the coffee and no one gets hurt. Confessions of a coffee snob.
Growing up I drank coffee with a ton of milk and sugar. I remember begging my dad for a cup because he drank it and as a 6 or 7 year old girl I wanted to be just like my daddy. My dad was a truck driver.

Never kick a duckling when mama is close.
I have an on line friend, Rose Dutra Duncan. She has blogged here on Steemit about a new duck that just hasn't adapted to the new home. I laughed as I read her blog. I remember a duck. She was also aMuscovy.

Do tears make the garden grow better?
I was checking my tomatoes and hoping they would ripen and not fall off the vine. Blight has almost destroyed the lower vines. I saw a tear fall onto a leaf and sit in a small round bubble for a few seconds

Some times you have to look at the big picture.
I went out to see if my tomatoes needed water. They did. They also needed some TLC. I am trying to keep the vines going until the fruit that is set gets a chance to ripen. The tomato blight has been just
