My reflection hunters contest entry contest Round 12
Saturday morning started early (like most of my mornings). Up at 5.50am. A mug of tea in the dark while my family sleeps. Dressing in the lounge in my workout gear laid out the night before. Say goodbye to my husband. Out the door to meet my two girlfriends for a run along the coast.
I arrive just before they do and manage to get a few photos of the sunrise before they join me. The split of the sky on the horizon was bright orange and only got brighter as the sun threatened to break above the Helderberg mountains across False Bay.
Groups of swimmers were wading into the water in the dawn light for their morning swim, more than usual as it’s a Saturday. Their silhouettes in my photos.

My friends arrive as the sky turns a more purple hue and we start our walk run along the Fishoek Boardwalk and onto the pavement headed towards Glencairn. It’s a little run along the outcrop between valleys. And then on towards Simons Town where we turned around in front of the mall.
First we catchup / run / catchup / walk. And then we start talking about running and shin splints (my constant issue). My fiends says it looks like I’m running heavily on my heals and need to change my style to land more on the centre of my foot with my toes arched up. I’m giving it a go! And it feels so awkward. But the pain is less!
Always fun with these girls. We made it to Simons Town Mall and turned back. It was a longer run than I had anticipated and I’m actually quite impressed that I managed to finish.
First we head back passed Glencairn with the sun higher in the sky.
These two guys had metal detectors and were wading through the water in search of treasure!
And then back to Fishoek Beach. After spotting some big starfish in a rock pool alongside the boardwalk, we took our shoes off and did a cool down on the wets sand and the lapping water.
The sea gulls were still happily waiting on the sand. The reflections of the mountain in the wet sand was awesome on this still day and the birds seemed happy for me to get up close.
Coffee and a chat and it was time to head home to “start the day” with our families with tired bodies.

By the evening my legs are a little achy but not bad, and now, the next morning, my legs are feeling good. I guess that slight adjustment will have to become a good habit because I’m really enjoying my runs.
