The Craziest Thing That Happened To Me At Home || Burnt Her Wedding Gift!
Have you ever gotten a deep sharp feeling in your gut to do something? And despite how uncomfortable and curious you were, you still decided to ignore that intuition only to later find out why you had the feeling in the first place. Of course, it's too late by then.
Why is this relevant? Just stick with me for a little bit and find out!
I and my siblings were back home for the holidays, from boarding school. Being employees, my parents still had to report to work. So on a typical work day, my mom would wake me up early in the morning, to give instructions on what to cook for my siblings for the day. She also gave other specific errands that I had to run.

On this particular day, she told me to bring out a plate of frozen jollof rice from the freezer in the morning. That was what we would eat in the afternoon. When she left, I brought it out as instructed and when time came for us to eat; I warmed it up for us to feast on.
After the food was ready I transferred it into a cooler and kept in on the now turned off gas burner. Now we had some left over Suya (beef kebab) in the fridge. Out of nowhere, I got the bright idea to warm them up too.
So I removed some from the refrigerator, added them to a saucepan, set it on the burner, and turned the heat down so it would burn slowly. I added a splash of water so it wouldn’t burn. Then I left to the living room to watch some TV. Mind you our living room was quite close to the kitchen and if you seat on this one chair, you only have to stretch a little to see into the kitchen.
I had things under control… or so I thought.
A little while passed and I began to get a persistent nudge telling me to check into the kitchen real quick. I ignored the feeling because; I had just placed the suya on the burner so there was no way it would already be burning.
Quarter of an hour passed and still the feeling would not go away, so I heeded to it and went to the kitchen. Nothing in this life could have prepared for what I was about to see.
I had forgotten to remove the thermoplastic cooler of rice from the back burner!!
The walls of the cooler were severely melted by the flames from the front burner. The melted bits were all over the burner's surface, some had spilled onto the floors and they were all ablaze; like gasoline splashes with flames.
I immediately gave a loud scream and switched off the burner. The whole kitchen was filled with the foul stench of burning plastic. I don't know if you've ever inhaled it before but, I can assure you, you will puke. After the plastic had dried, I had to scrape the melted pieces from the floor and the gas.
It wasn’t easy at all. And as the Nigerian that I am, I was in hot soup. I knew that when my mother got home she would skin me alive because I’m pretty sure that cooler was her wedding gift from a relative.
For the remainder of the day, I was panicky and irritated. What would my mother do when she came back at night? I was freaked out!
When she finally made it home, it’s safe to say she beat the living daylights out of me. I dared not make that mistake again.
