Ama was just sixteen years old, she was the first daughter in her family. She was beautiful with qualities that make up for a beautiful girl. Her father had shouted at her for coming back late in the night. And she also shouted at her father back. Because she thought she was still old enough, forgetting she was just a sixteen-year-old girl. This caused her father to ground her for weeks. For weeks she did not talk to her father, even when her father tried to talk to her but she did not reply.
Later in the afternoon, her mother called her to her room and advised her that what she was doing was wrong. Her mother showed her pictures of when she was small and how their house had one time caught fire while she was cooking. Her father ran into the house and saved her from the fire and got burnt in his arm. That was how she got the scar in his arms. After advising her Ama felt bad and promised to apologize to her father.
She sat by the door of her father's house. She was waiting for her father to come back home from work. Her mother was in the kitchen cooking rice and stew for the family dinner.
Her mom called her from the kitchen to come and eat, "Ama, come eat!" Her mother said.
"I'm not hungry yet." She answered.
"Ama, think about this," her little brother asked her. He was playing games in the parlour
"Think about what?" Ama asked.
"Do you know that tomorrow never comes?" Her brother asked, looking at her
"What are you saying? Tomorrow does come. Like now, tomorrow is Monday" Ama answered.
"Don't think that way. Think of it this way. Today is today, and then tomorrow it becomes yesterday and that tomorrow becomes today! So tomorrow never actually comes!"
"You're right!" Ama smiled because her brother was right. She had never thought about it that way at all in her life.
"So that's why we have to show love to people today because tomorrow is never guaranteed" her brother concluded and went back to his game.
Ama smiled again because she never saw her brother to be such a wise boy. She had always seen him as a small boy who thinks like a small boy. She knew there and then that she needed to stop being arrogant to her father and start showing that she loved him like a daughter. Because tomorrow is not guaranteed.
Then her father walked through the door. He was back from work. He looked tired and weak. Ama quickly ran to the door and hugged her father.
"I'm sorry I'm late guys. There was eom much work at the office," he said.
"It is alright Dad. I'm sorry for being arrogant to you. I want you to forgive me and continue loving me as your daughter" Ama said.
"Ama my daughter, even in your anger I will never stop loving you. You're my daughter and I love you and forgive you" her father says and hugs her
Immediately Ama's mother brought out food and served it at the dining table. She called them to come and eat. They all sat down at the table like one family and ate together. The food was sweet and Ama was happy her father forgave her.
