Hello friends! Today, I’d like to share a professional eyebrow styling procedure with you, putting into practice some of the skills I learned during a makeup course I took here in Colombia a few years ago. My friend Yuli—a beautiful woman with a lovely complexion—kindly agreed to be my model for this post; she has been a wonderful companion throughout much of my time here in Colombia.
Hola, amigos, hoy en esta oportunidad quiero compartir con ustedes un procedimiento para un diseño de ceja profesional, en donde pongo en práctica algunos de los conocimientos que obtuve en un curso de maquillaje que hice hace unos años aquí en Colombia. Aquí, mi amiga Yuli accedió a ser mi modelo para esta publicación, una morena hermosa que ha sido una maravillosa compañera en gran parte del tiempo que tengo en Colombia.
Well, the first step in creating the perfect eyebrow design for this spectacular model—who is also my friend—is to analyze her face shape; Yuli has a diamond-shaped face.
Bueno, lo primero que vamos a hacer para hacer un perfecto diseño de cejas para esta modelo espectacular que es mi amiga, es un estudio en la forma de su rostro; Yuli tiene un rostro con forma de diamante.
The second step is to analyze her skin type; in this case, she has oily-looking skin. After assessing her face and skin type, we will proceed to cleanse and prepare the area we are going to work on.
Lo segundo es estudiar su tipo de piel: en este caso ella tiene una piel de aspecto graso; luego de hacer el estudio del tipo de rostro y el tipo de piel, vamos a hacer un proceso de limpieza y preparación de la zona que vamos a trabajar.
I’m going to perform a quick facial cleanse, eyebrow shaping and tinting, and an eyelash treatment on her—incidentally, she was wearing false lashes in the first photo, so we removed them to begin the entire procedure.
A ella le voy a realizar una pequeña limpieza facial, un diseño y pigmentación de cejas y un diseño de pestañas que, por cierto, en la primera foto ella traía pestañas postizas y se las retiramos para empezar con todo el procedimiento.
I carry out the cleansing process this way: first a cleansing foam, then exfoliation, and finally, we apply a mask.
El proceso de limpieza yo lo hago de esta manera: primero una espuma limpiadora, luego exfoliamos y por último aplicamos una mascarilla.
What I’m showing you here is a foam cleanser or shampoo for eyelashes and extensions. I also use it without any issues to cleanse my face as a first step, along with a special brush to apply the foam.
Esto que les muestro es una espuma o champú para pestañas y extensiones. Bueno, yo sin problemas lo uso también para limpiar el rostro como primer paso y una brocha especial para aplicar la espuma.
We apply the foam all over the face and use the brush to make circular motions across the entire face, cleansing and removing any oil or impurities present on the skin.
Aplicamos la espuma por todo el rostro y con la brocha vamos a ir haciendo círculos por toda la cara para ir limpiando y sacando cualquier tipo de grasa e impurezas que podamos tener en la piel.
Now, firmly remove all the product using a cloth dampened with water.
Ahora retiramos todo el producto de manera firme con una toallita húmeda con agua.
Next, we do the facial exfoliation. I use this scrub from Vitú; it’s a mixed-berry one and smells amazing—it’s quite soapy and exfoliates really well. We apply it to the face, using a generous amount of the product.
Hacemos el proceso de exfoliación facial. Yo uso este exfoliante de Vitú; es de frutos rojos y huele superrico, es bastante jabonoso y hace una muy buena exfoliación. Lo aplicamos en el rostro, echamos una cantidad responsable del producto.
We begin spreading it with our fingertips, moving in circles all over the face so that the small granules in the cream can do their exfoliating work.
Y empezamos con las yemas de los dedos a esparcir, haciendo círculos por todo el rostro para que los pequeños grumos que trae la crema hagan su trabajo exfoliante.
These are the wet wipes I use; I still rinse them with water to remove the exfoliator, because the moisture from the wipe alone isn't enough. So, I rinse the wipe and go over the area again until all the product is removed using water.
Estas son las toallitas húmedas que yo uso; de igual manera las paso por agua para retirar el exfoliante porque solo con lo húmedo de la toallita no basta; por lo tanto, la lavamos y la pasamos nuevamente hasta que retiremos todo el producto con agua.
The third and final step is applying a mask; I use a clay and charcoal one. Apply it, let it dry for 20 minutes until it hardens, and then remove it using water and a damp cloth.
El tercer y último paso es aplicar una mascarilla; yo uso una de arcilla y carbón. Aplicamos, dejamos secar por 20 minutos hasta que se endurezca y retiramos igualmente con agua y una toallita húmeda.
This is how it looked after the mask, showing the cleansing effect provided by the cleansing products:

Finally, I’m going to use a small bottle of rose water to refresh your face and see how clean it is. Once the face is clean, the skin is ready for the design to be created.
Por último, le voy a pasar un pomito con agua de rosas para refrescar el rostro y ver qué tan limpio quedó. Ya con el rostro limpio, la piel queda lista para empezar a hacer el diseño.
For the design, we’re going to use a process called string mapping; normally, you’d do it by hand, but I bought a fantastic level on Temu for this. I use a highlighter to mark the mapping lines.
Para el diseño, vamos a hacer un proceso llamado mapeo con hilo; bueno, lo normal es hacerlo con la mano, pero yo compré un nivel en Temu espectacular para esto. Uso un iluminador para marcar las líneas del mapeo.
The first point to mark is at the center of the face; we determine this by aligning with the center hair part, passing through the middle of the eyebrows, the center of the nose, and the midpoint of the mouth's arch.
El primer punto a marcar es en la mitad del rostro; lo medimos con la raya del camino en mitad del cabello, pasamos por el medio de las cejas, la mitad de la nariz y la mitad del arco de la boca.
The second point we will mark is the start of the eyebrow; it is measured from the side of the tip of the nose—specifically, the inner corner of the eye—up to the beginning of the eyebrow.
El segundo que vamos a marcar es el inicio de la ceja; se mide desde los laterales de la punta de la nariz, normalmente el lagrimal, y pasa hasta el inicio de la ceja.
The third point we will mark is the high point of the eyebrow; it runs from the corner of the mouth, through the center of the eye, to the highest point of your eyebrow.
El tercer punto que vamos a marcar es el punto alto de la ceja; pasa desde el arco de la boca a la mitad del ojo hasta el punto más alto de tu ceja.
The fourth point marks the end of the eyebrow; it is determined by aligning a line from the corner of the mouth, past the side of the nose and the outer corner of the eye, ending at the temple, which is where the tip of the eyebrow's tail is placed.
El cuarto es el punto final de la ceja; se marca desde el arco de la boca, pasando los laterales de la nariz, la última pestaña y termina en la sien, que es donde va el último punto de la cola de la ceja.
Here we mark the thickness of the eyebrows:
Aquí marcamos el grosor de las cejas:
Here we mark the highest point of the eyebrows, which is always slightly higher than the starting point.
Aquí marcamos el punto más alto de las cejas, que es un poco más arriba siempre que el inicio.

Next, we measure the thickness of our eyebrows: typically, thick eyebrows are 1 cm thick and thin ones are 9 mm; our model's measure 9 mm.
Seguimos a medir el grosor de nuestras cejas: Normalmente, las cejas gruesas suelen ser de 1 cm de grosor y las delgadas de 9 mm; las de nuestra modelo son de 9 mm.
We make sure they are identical to each other.
Nos aseguramos de que están igual una de la otra.
The high point varies in thickness; there is a super-easy formula for this: 1/2 + 1 for thin eyebrows and 1/2 + 2 for thick eyebrows.
El punto alto cambia de grosor; para esto existe una fórmula superfácil que es 1/2 + 1 para cejas delgadas y 1/2 + 2 para cejas gruesas.
Here, I measured the body of the eyebrows; using highlighter, I applied a small amount to the tips of the caliper—the tool we are using for measurements—and used that to mark the measurement points, transferring them from the first eyebrow to the second.
Acá medimos el cuerpo de las cejas y con ayuda de iluminador coloqué un poco en las puntas del pie de rey, que es el que estamos usando para medir, y así fui marcando los puntos de las medidas de la primera con la segunda.
Finally, I measured the tail of the eyebrow and did the same with the highlighter to mark the other side.
Por último, medí la colita de la ceja e hice lo mismo con el iluminador para marcar del otro lado.
We connect all the dots and shape our eyebrows using a wax pencil—or a cream highlighter and a brush; I find the latter method easier.
Con un lápiz encerado unimos todos los puntos y le damos forma a nuestras cejas, o con iluminador en crema y una brocha; a mí se me hace más fácil de esta forma.
We create the design by connecting the dots. Once the design lines are ready, we proceed with hair removal. In this case, I used wax on our beautiful model.
Hacemos el diseño uniendo los puntos. Ya listas las líneas del diseño, depilamos. En este caso, depilé con cera a nuestra bella modelo.
Finally, working quickly while the wax is still warm, we apply the cloth strip and pull in the direction opposite to hair growth.
Por último, rápidamente, con la cera aún caliente, colocamos el lienzo y tiramos en forma contraria al nacimiento de los pelitos.
Using these wooden sticks, we carefully apply the hot wax outside the outline of the design, following the direction of hair growth—but not without first combing the hair in the opposite direction: if we are waxing the upper area, we comb downwards before applying the wax; if it is the lower area, we comb upwards and apply the wax accordingly.
Con ayuda de estos palitos de madera aplicamos la cera caliente con cuidado por fuera del diseño y en forma del nacimiento del vello, no sin antes peinar en forma contraria: si vamos a depilar arriba, peinamos hacia abajo y aplicamos la cera; si es en la parte de abajo, peinamos hacia arriba y aplicamos la cera donde corresponde.
I prepare the pigment specifically this way: I let it sit for at least 10 minutes and begin by applying it to areas with sparse hair and the tail of the brow, followed by the body, and finally the head of the brow. I apply the pigment to the body of the brow using a dabbing motion, while using a sweeping motion for the head of the brow to ensure a more natural, less harsh look.
Yo en especial preparo el pigmento: lo dejo reposar al menos 10 minutos y empiezo a aplicar primero en lugares con poco vello y la cola de ceja, luego el cuerpo y por último el inicio. El cuerpo de la ceja se pigmenta a toques y en el inicio se hace de forma barrida para que quede más natural y no tan marcada.
Finally, there is a rule regarding pigmentation and removal times: typically, the pigment takes just 5 minutes to set at the front, 10 minutes for the body, and 15 minutes for the tail. By following these rules, we remove the pigment in stages, and the eyebrow design is complete.
Y para finalizar, existe una regla de pigmentación para el tiempo de retiro: Normalmente, en el inicio solo demora 5 minutos el pigmento; el cuerpo demora 10 minutos y la cola 15 minutos. Siguiendo estas reglas, iremos retirando por partes el pigmento y queda listo nuestro diseño de cejas.
I wanted to share the process I use for applying eyelashes with you, but I lost some of the images that would have helped guide the explanation; I’m not too worried about it, though—I’ll show it another time. This last image is of a beautiful sunset that occurred right while we were doing this.
