I generally like to check in once a week with a post covering some of my exploits and the stories that come with them. It has actually been 2 weeks since I scanned my camera roll to see what I have been up to and tell tales on the blockchain.
How do you cure and adventure hangover caused by 2 weeks of high adventure in a tropical wonderland? Dive right back into business projects, the glorious outdoors, and other exotic Canadian pastimes.
Paneer Makhni
A big chunk of my camera roll is presently occupied by shots from the buffet at the local Indian restaurant https://rajastratford.ca Covid shut down indoor dining for a long while and buffets for an even longer while. So, the return of this local favourite was a pleasant development for the community. I snapped a few pictures to share on their social media platforms and was able to take home a few dishes to share with the family. I saved this paneer for myself as it was a little to spicy for the girls but I LOVED it. It is good to have clients who produce delicious food!
Brave New Venture
Besides getting back to the campaigns we (https://towncriermarketing.ca / @town-crier) are running for established clients, we also helped with the launch of a brand new restaurant https://bar-bq.ca This is Chef Blake prepping a little cabbage for the southern bbq / creole menu to be served during the soft opening the next day. Actually I may as well post the menu we designed for your review.
I do love a 1-page menu for simplicity sake and evidence the chef can have a nice variety without showcasing everything he can cook to everyone. It has been great to see this new venture launch in a challenging time and opening a new feature in the quite limited night scene here in the winter. Should make for some good food and pints for a review in the future.
Out Doors
Though a far cry from the 30 Celsius and sunny of the Yucatan peninsula, Autumn up in this corner of Canadia is not too bad either. The week since this shot was snapped has resulted in many more falling leaves and even a bit of snow so the timing for the highschool band show was well-timed. They are holding as many events outdoors as possible and a whole concert wasn't gonna happen indoors this year. It was surprisingly good for a high school band and encouraging that the local symphony orchestra is partnering with the high school to mentor and involve themselves in the learning of the next generation of musicians. Being a theatre town, there is actually local work if you are good enough and the world class Stratford Symphony Orchestra https://www.stratfordsymphonyorchestra.ca/ is rare for such a small town.
As mentioned, the weather has turned a little sour since that week with ran and even a little wet snow and back. Makes it fun to look back on a #wednesdaywalk with my little fuzz dog the other day. It was seasonal but not too wet a week ago and this was a great break during the middle of the week. I don't always notice but each season up here has its benefits. Autumn is cooler, more colourful and a time to live in the moment before settling in for a few months of winter.
Guest Bartending
In an unintentional turn of events, I have unwittingly become plan B for one of the fanciest restaurants in town when they need a bartender. With many hospitality workers leaving the industry during the year of restrictions, and all restaurants dashing to reopen at full capacity, there is actually a shortage of staff. Whatever the circumstance, I have spent a few evenings helping out other businesses and this is a cool one.
I have gotten back to training Jiu Jitsu at the gym. The nice thing about the vacation I took was that I didn't come back 2 weeks behind and out of shape. I came back ahead from training a couple times a day and attending seminars with tricks and concepts from world champions. Whether you are trying to forget about work, think of something besides daily challenges, or get back into real life after a fantastic vacation, #bjjfixesthis too!
Whassa?
Sometimes, you discover something you have never seen before. Sometimes, they look like little alien embryos! Apparently, these are called Rambutan https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/rambutan and are rich in nutrients and antioxidants. @sequentialvibe was a little more adventurous than I was feeling that lunch and sampled them. Verdict: not bad and worth the try for something different and nutritious.
Beer!
You know one of the good parts of getting back home is the rich craft beer scene I love so much. I am plowing through a variety pack to review this #beersaturday but this one may end up being my Pint of the Week. A neat story behind this one and spoiler: great beer!
Thanks for checking in catching up on a couple weeks of reality.
