Happy #wednesdaywalk everyone. This is the day when we link up with @tattoodjay and share a little outdoor pedestrian action through pictures and videos and words.
My post today includes the increasingly popular Zeke's Bloopers which generally come in video form. Don't worry, no Zekes were harmed during this production.
Join me as I sprint to the finish line where the crew awaits me so that we can hit the lake and race sailboats!
I battled too much traffic which made me late but we eventually got out on the lake. Here are some of the ships out preparing the boats and sails and crews for the starting sequence.
Here is the guy on the Pointy End. Also called a Foredeck guy. He is in charge of making sure the sails get put up and down cleanly, and the ropes stay where they need to be. He doesn't like cheese and prefers cider.
Wednesday races and a couple regattas are on this new, bigger and newer J108 http://www.jboats.com/j108 The main sail is damn HUGE and provides most of the propulsion. This boat seems to win most of its sails but I think the price for a new carbon mainsail is north of $20k.
I am more sitting and relaxing at this point than wednesdaywalking but you have to kick back and drink it in sometime.
You can see we are bundled up still as the weather is nice enough on shore but is still cold on the water. Lake Ontario is big and deep so it takes a little longer for the water to warm for the summer. The breeze blowing across the top of miles and miles of 5-degree water gets down to that temperature and we wear our foulies and fur hats sometimes early in the season.
Turned out to be a great night for a sail and we returned safe to the clubhouse for a beer with the other sailors.
You don't have to be a daring sailor to snap a few pictures of your walk and share it on #wednesdaywalk. So get up and get active and bring a camera so you can join @tattoodjay an I and the rest of the folks as we share our fun.
