Can you be 100% honest about feeling uncomfortable or wrong to cry as a man? If the answer is No, then you deserve a round of applause. But if not then know that it's not your fault. You are just another victim of social stigma.
It's not about any particular society but it's present all over the world. Each and every society teaches boys that they are not meant to cry. Gender stereotype, social structure, work balance between males and females; everything is responsible for this wrong concept. But as the world is changing, right? And we all know, we all have emotions; whether or not we approve it.
Hiding and pretending our true emotion is nothing helpful to develop as a person. Our social expectation from a man is to reflect strong emotion and ability. But that doesn't mean they never can show their true emotions. Even when they lost someone closest, even in the funeral man doesn't expect to be crying.
There are many researchers showing how we fall behind if we don't express our true emotions; if we fail to open up and being honest about our feeling and emotions. Also, it's nothing hard to understand how a person could feel if he fails to express his pain; if he has to choose to pretend and hiding because of the fear of our society.
This stigma can only be removed if we don't see crying as anything synonymous with weakness. Also, normalizing 'feminine work' for both men and women at home and outside can make things better. I'm not here to support any movement or ideology. But to show you how harmful this stigma can be.
Start with you, the world will change also!
