Standing at the edge of the ravine, Marnie checked her watch.
5:15am
The wind rattled the dust at her feet, her jacket blowing in the powerful gales. Her body swayed backwards and forwards, but her arms stayed firm at her sides. She took another step forward. Her right foot now half on the ground, and half floating over the chasm, she checked her watch again.
5:17am
A strong gust of wind blew at her back and she dug her left heel into the ground to stop herself. Her scarf unravelled itself and floated off into the abyss below, its red fabric twirling like a dancer in the wind. Another step forward. Her feet were now both hanging over the precipice. The wobbling became intense, and she tried to fight the severe vertigo. Checking her watch once more, a tear rolled down her cheek.
5:20am
“Jump.”
The voice behind her bored its way into her consciousness as the tears streamed from her eyes. Bending her knees, she entered a squat position and her muscles tensed. Her body fought the command and her legs burnt under the strain. Her wrist came back up to her eyes again.
