The red kite above circled with its eyes stalking for prey. Rhadd and Owain walked through the park, hand in hand, appreciating the scenery and wildlife bursting at the seams. Insects flew around happily treating themselves to the bountiful supply of nectar from the colourful explosion of flowers all around the well-kept and curated space.
At the park’s centre stood a great bronze statue. Rhadd and Owain approached it, reading off its plaque.
“Rhys ap Llewelyn, Explorer, Archaeologist and Founder of the Lost City of Sumier,” Rhadd looked up at the statue, appreciating the rather handsome visage depicted in its cold metal.
“He’s still alive, you know,” said Owain. “Nearly eighty now though, lives on Sceptre Isle in a ruddy great mansion.”
“You don’t say? How do you know that?” asked Rhadd.
“Dad did some work for his family a few years back. His son’s a right prick, apparently.”
“Your dad has a problem with everyone though,” responded Rhadd.
“True, true.” Owain glanced at the statue, taking in its stature. “His staff – or walking cane, is a bit wonky.”
“I didn’t notice that… Strange. Almost looks like if it were moved like this,” Rhadd pulled the staff, and as it shifted in place, the sound of whirring mechanisms could be heard underground.
“What did you do?”
“I have no idea.”
