The winds increased their speed, the gales smashing into the now boarded over windows. Waves crashed into the side of the ship, soaking the deck, and threatening to flood the ship. Rhys sat in his bed chambers, watching water trickle into his room from his ceiling. The journey to the archipelago was never going to be easy but encountering a tornado on their last few miles showed the gods’ indifference to his fervour.
It happened at an alarming pace: the clouds became grey-black, and the crackle of lightning erupted across the ocean. The mast was thrown into disarray, and anything not bolted down was lost in an instant.
The captain struggled to steer the ship to shore, searching desperately for a better way to land the vessel. It had been thrown off course by the winds and was now being dragged into the eye of the tornado, a whirlpool churning the waters all around.
Rhys could hear the wood bending and cracking under the force, until the sound of the mast twisting into two exploded over the gales. As it plummeted to the water, its weight crashed into the side of the boat, smashing Rhys’ room open. The water rushed in, and like the hand of death itself, Rhys was dragged into the depths.
