Through a stuffed nose, the blunted aromas from the bowl of chicken soup were barely perceptible to Sara. Her eyes were red and puffy, and her chest rattled and wheezed with each breath. In some kind of induced sock madness, Sara had piled on sock after sock on her feet to try and combat the chills and cold that had taken control this second day into her illness.
“Told you to take that potion,” Nip walked over with a hot water bottle, placing it in Sara’s lap. “Me and Garrick took one each and look at us, both fine.”
“Shut it, Nip,” snapped Sara. Her voice was hoarse and crackled out through phlegm.
“I said I wouldn’t say I told you so… yesterday. Today is a new day.” Nip sat in the deep armchair opposite Sara, grabbing a newspaper from the nearby coffee table. “We knew the creatures were poisonous, and I managed to get one potion each to help us resist their effects. Just because Garrick vomited when he drunk his… I didn’t take you for such a pansy.”
“One more funny little quip out of you and I’ll come over there and cough all over you.” Sara slurped up some soup getting greasy globules all over her cheeks. She tried to wipe her face clean, but a film had already settled and refused to budge.
“Luckily for me your illness isn’t contagious. The wonders of research!” Nip picked up her mug and sipped her tea, raising her eyebrows at Sara. Her smug grin could be seen even while her lips met the porcelain, and Sara’s malicious gaze attacked her from across the room.
