The warnings had been coming in for the past few days. The seers had made their predictions, and they had yet to be wrong when it came to the volcanic activity of the great Mount Reyn. Reminders to move all our treasured personal belongings out of the village had begun: move your money; move your pets; and move your family.
A great rebuilding tradition had been fostered within the town of Reyn. The volcano provided rich fertile soil but erupted once every decade. Taking advantage of the land for the bountiful crops, the people of Reyn had learnt to never get too attached to material belongings.
‘What Was Once Can Be Again’
That saying was attributed to the late elder Grenn, the town’s first elected leader.
Caravans had been set up to transport the people and their goods to the nearest refuge, the checkpoint town of Moryn. It had become home to a few travellers, and a meagre service industry, but was relatively bereft of inhabitant for much of the Tranquil Times. Small apartment blocks were created that housed the townspeople of Reyn while the worst of the lava floes subsided, before they could return once more to begin rebuilding.
