Trigger Warning: Rape/sexual assault mention
“We needed to speak about Matthew.” Sandra stood holding her briefcase close to her side, watching as people flitted in and out of the building around them.
“Yes, yes, we did.” Philip gestured for Sandra to follow as he made his way down one of the eastern corridors. “You mentioned that he’s been embroiled in some… misconduct scandal.”
“You could call it that. Or what it really is. He fucked his assistant when they were out on the lash – and she says it’s rape.” Sandra quickly stepped behind her boss, matching his pace.
“Well, we’ll see what the courts have to say about it before we go, you know, pointing and throwing around accusations of those sorts.” Philip scanned his ID card on the wall sensor, and with a beep, pushed open the door further into Whitehall.
“Sir, I think we should try and distance ourselves as much as possible from him. Make him out to be a pariah.” Sandra pushed past the oncoming group of civil servants, flashing a brief smile which was summarily ignored.
“Well, I can’t very well do that now, can I? I was at his wedding, I’m his daughter’s godfather for goodness’ sake.”
“But we can’t have the public lose even more faith in government institutions. They already think you’re all a bunch of fucking liars, adding philanderers to the mix isn’t a massive stretch with the last dozen sexual assault scandals we’ve had to cover up.”
