Do you agree true love should be about expensive gifts or comparism? Or Have your partner or loved ones including families ever compared you to someone else?

STORY TIME
This story is about a colleague, who also happen to be my roommate in the hostel. Her name is Titi and we are 5 in number in a room. Well nothing to worry about, the room is spacious enough, so that is the least of our problem.
Titi is a lover girl or should I say was a lover girl. Well permit me to use was in this story. She met the guy during our 200level first semester holiday. Only God knows from where. But when she resumed back to school it was so obvious that she was in love. I happen to eavesdrop on her conversations with this partner of her's, wait,🫸 don't judge me yet for eavesdropping. She just have this habit of putting her phone on loudspeaker whenever she is on call with her lover. So you see, as her roomates we couldn't help it.
At some point I concluded they will end up getting married. Cause in every conversation, she always know's how to bring her partner in. Telling us how sweet he is, making everyone believe it might be true love. And have them wishing for one. Well not me, cause I'm always scared of that word TRUE LOVE.( Ouch 😳 goosebumps 😂😂)

So it was valentine's evening. Oh! goodness in my thoughts 💭 I can imagine the love in the air, red roses, the deco., and.... Okay scratch that.😂☺️ Well that evening the air was gentle, not too cold. The world was calm like it knows what night it is. Well we were expecting surprises but no package was delivered to anyone in the girls hostel throughout that day. Woah! Hold up not me. I mean for those who claimed they have partners. Guess there lover disappeared on lovers day.😂☺️ Including my roommate Titi. Are you surprise? Yes I was surprise too. But that wasn't suppose to be my business. Guess I'm just that kind of roommate that seat in my space and observe quietly. That same evening, I and my roommates were all seated outside enjoying the cool breeze when suddenly, Titi phone range. Well with the joy in her eyes you can tell it's her lover and just as usual she place the call on loudspeaker. Well being a lover girl, she sounded absolutely sure about her partner.
Just immediately after the conversation started, Titi requested for her valentine's gift. And her lover ask what she want for the day. like seriously,😒 well I thought 🤔 this question should have been asked before the valentine's day, not on val night. Right?. Or maybe a surprise package should be presented. Or maybe so I thought. Well since I have never for once had a val, I just shrug the thought off.
"Popcorn,🍿I want popcorn" "she replied".
Hold up! Wait a minute,😳 who is this girl? Like for real, who wants popcorn as valentine's gift? Wait, what is my business in this "I muttered to myself".
She was so excited. Her lover agreed to get it for her but she should also get him something too since its lovers day.
She excitedly ask what he want for the day too. Can you guess what this guy requested for families?........
He requested for "1.8 million naira, diamond - studded carat wristwatch".
Like what? Who is he kidding 😂 😂? We are in 200level second semester. How on earth will she get the money to buy that "I thought to myself ".
At this point I assumed he must be joking 😃. He can't actually mean that, or was he serious? So many questions.
Titi laughed out loud finding it so funny.
"Babe you're so funny. Where do you expect me to get that money from? Stop the joke please. " She replied"
And her lover's next comment shocked everyone outside that night. I myself was over gasted.

"Go online and see what your mates are doing for there man" "He said".
OMG! Was that even necessary " I exclaimed in my head". And at that moment everyone was staring at her with so many expression. Some were laughing, some were shocked just like me. She immediately hanged up and ran inside the hostel.
Wow! To me that was disrespectful. Well Titi and I are not close but, I could remember she once said her lover is the type that hates a lady that is not independent. Well at that point to me this is beyond independence but comparism. He just compared her to other girls, thats disrespectful. How can he be pushing unrealistic expectations.
Seriously "A 1.8 million naira wristwatch from a student" more like he was asking for chin chin money 😂😂.
And the worst part, asking her to go online and see what her mates are doing for their man. Like damn, that's totally emotional manipulation. More like trying to tell her she wasn't enough.
Well, for me I don't think she could afford the love. Because ever since that day, she never talked about him.
Well I feel for her. Lets say I no what it feels like to be compared to someone else. Especially by the people you love. Even our African mothers did that a lot while we were growing up.
" Look at Abigail, your school mate. Very decent and obedient". I know they want us to be good. But in the end hurting our feelings. Well, my feelings. "Because I attend the same school with this girl and I know who she is. But you only see her as who she presented herself to be to you mum" " That's how I always want to tell my mum or any of my loved ones who tries to do that to me" But I couldn't. ( I hope some of my hive fam. Will be able to relate to this too).
