Good day, this is Zak from Cape Town, South Africa bringing you another Warhammer lore post. We have been delving into the Imperium and its innumerable worlds. We have covered that there are over 1000 Chapters of Space Marines in the Galaxy under the banner of the Emperor.
But those are SUPERHUMAN warriors that are like knights and angels... both. They come from a genetic lineage back to their Primarchs and from the Primarchs to the Emperor himself.
Meanwhile for every Chapter of Space Marines there might be hundreds or even Thousands of worlds with their own military forces. A planet must first establish a garrison, this is called the Planetary Defence Force (PDF).
Once they have a PDF strong enough to defend that world from invaders or raiders, that planet starts training and equipping an Regiment of the Astra Militarum that can be sent off into space into warzones as deemed necessary by the Imperium.
It is an honor to be able to raise a Regiment and a Regiment is generally many thousands strong.
Again, they come from many different worlds and you can choose one of the exiting themes or create your own. Their weapons are standardized, as are their tanks etc.
