I think I'm going crazy
As I write this post, I wonder how many others have been in similar situations to me. For the first several years, crypto was something I'd generally held a passing interest in, checking in every few months to find out the price of Bitcoin had risen a few dollars, and then to great surprise finding out it reached an all-time high of 1100 before retreating back to what was once considered 'more reasonable' levels.
Fast forward to 2017 and cryptocurrency has taken over my life. Outside of work, nearly every waking minute (and even the sleeping ones) are devoted to crypto in some way, be it monitoring my trades on the books, reading articles, learning things and of course, posting here on Steemit. What perhaps should have been a hobby has turned into a lifestyle bordering on obsession, and I spent some time taking a step back to see how it had changed my daily routines.
I'll break down my findings as thus:
- I don't sleep properly. The first and probably most pressing that I feel on a daily basis. Crypto never sleeps, and as such, I am always up as much as possible with the books open, watching the price, or my trades (especially BitMEX positions), or being on here. I usually work nights so being up at random times isn't a problem, but now I find myself sleeping 4-6.5 hours per day so I can be awake and active as often as possible to catch good price movements. Not to mention that sitting in front of a computer doesn't use up much energy, so it's almost as though I can get away with it. Almost.
And on that point, I basically sleep AT the computer too or on the lounge next to it. No time to walk 15 seconds to my bed.
- I don't eat properly. I just forget, or I can't be bothered, or I keep putting it off, or I don't go out to buy food. I feel like I'm living a NEET life again (Not in Employment, Education or Training). I'll tell you what though.... I've taken a liking to energy drinks that I never had before.
Addendum: Or I don't have any money to buy anything decent because I threw it all into crypto lol
I don't clean myself properly. I'm not even going to mince words on this one. Who needs to shower every day when nobody is going to see me. Right? Right.
I don't go out anymore. What if I miss a breakout? A flash dump?! What if I need to move some coins around? Why on earth would I risk precious gains for the sake of going out??? What's there even to do out in the world? Besides, I don't need friends. I'll talk to them when my account balance is 100k and I drive a Lambo.
I barely move. I remember a time when I used to get out and move my body. I used to go to gym and train and be active. Now all I find myself doing is moving my neck back and forth every 30 seconds to glance at the price. I've developed all these obsessive habits of needing to check my account balances on Bittrex every few minutes, or look at the prices of SBD, STEEM, Bitcoin, Ethereum, BitcoinCash and soon EOS. I'm also checking Twitter frequently as well.
I can't imagine a day without internet access. Are you kidding me? If I lost internet access for a day with open trades, I think I'll drive myself insane. The thought of laggy internet is bad enough, but no internet at all... Bitcoin will probably rise to 100k and fall back to 17k in that time and I'll be no better off for it.
I got bad at talking about anything else. Let's face it, none of the other conversations I have with people will result in gains. All that matters are pathways to those sweet, sweet gains.
Can you relate to any of my experiences at all? I doubt it'll change anytime soon (or maybe it will have to), but the dreams of a brighter, more prosperous future guide me onwards. It's ride or die, baby
So until then:
