Hello, friends of Hive. Caldosa, for us Cubans, has a special meaning. It is the dish we think of first when it comes to bringing a group together. There are several festivities that demonstrate this, including family celebrations. Today I come to talk about one of the most beautiful experiences I have had, marked by the humility and simplicity of the people I meet in life, thanks to my work as a radio broadcaster.

The first program I did on the radio as a professional announcer was Súper Domingo, which was broadcasted precisely on Sunday nights. Since it began, it was so popular that in a volatile way, requests began to arrive to the radio station to record it in the municipalities. About it, I promise you a few installments.

Several listeners went with us to wherever the recording was. In one of these "outside transmissions", as we call them in the radio, we had a big problem. We were going to a town in a municipality where there were no gastronomic offerings, which was a problem for the audience. Why don't we make a caldosa? With this initiative, listeners would join us. We talked to some listeners from the community "La Leña", in Consolación del Sur, and they thought it was great.

They had it all! So we began to promote the recording of the program until the day arrived. A bus arrived at the station, we loaded the technical equipment, as well as the artists who would perform and listeners from the municipality of Pinar del Río. We arrived very early, we set up microphones, loudspeakers, computers, consoles, modulated the sound and the recording began. Several artists from the territory made the listeners dance, who also had fun with the participation games.

While all this was going on, three friends made the caldosa and entered the program through interviews in two moments to describe how the cooking of the caldosa was going, which was like the central axis of that Super Sunday. This space was recorded in real time, so the process lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes, just what was needed to finish the tasty broth. At the end of the recording, we began to serve.

We started playing the popular guaracha "La caldosa de Kike y Marina". In Cuba, at the beginning of 1980 there was no radio station, newspaper or television station that did not refer to the legend of "La caldosa de Kike y Marina", a culinary recipe turned into musical history. Do you know anything about this caldosa?

Some bibliographies report that biochemistry professor and music lover Rogelio Díaz and other neighbors of the Penas neighborhood, in the eastern part of the country, tasted a caldosa that would eventually be the motivation for the guaracha of Inocente Iznaga, the Goldfinch of Cienfuegos, to whom Díaz ceded his rights as author.

Almost everyone in Cuba knows how to sing: "Fíjese, Don Kike, / fíjese Marina, / con esta caldosa / ¡que bien se camina!" The truth is that that program "walked" thanks to the caldosa that we all prepared together. That experience is unforgettable. Do you like caldosa? Do you know how to make it? Let me know in the comments, we'll soon get together among friends and I'd love to hear about it. Happy day! Thanks for reading!
