These days that I have shared more with my son have made me reflect on how fast they grow and sometimes we do not realize, sometimes I just watch him while he talks to me and I think that we must make the most of this time because later he will not return, he recently turned 6 years old and it is already possible to talk to him about various topics and sometimes I do not have the answer to many questions he asks me, I see how he is pending and shares with me and his dad. But I wonder how I can maintain a healthy conversation with my son, that we always have a communication that remains in time, that keeps us united, that we express ourselves with confidence and that as a mother I feel that I am doing my job well.

Communication is paramount in any relationship, and even more so between parents and children. As parents we do not have a manual for the upbringing of our children, however, there are tools and tips that can guide us to maintain a good relationship with them. In these times where we can see many fractured families is where we must make our best effort to strengthen values, that there is between family members companionship, living in an atmosphere of union, complicity and affection.

Some tips that I believe can help us

Communication with our children should be adapted according to their age, we can talk to them about our experiences and experiences, how we think about something and how we may feel, so they can feel more human, stop seeing us as nothing happens to us because maybe that is what we reflect.

We should not impose our opinions, we have to listen to them, let's participate in a joint reflection so they can better visualize the reasons that led them to do something at a certain moment. When listening to them we should not make any judgments, we should accept them, and not use what they tell us in confidence against us no matter how angry we are.

Maybe as they grow up they will have some topics that they will prefer not to talk about with their parents, but with a friend and we have to respect that, respect their privacy and their autonomy. However, we must be patient if we want to help them and keep the door open for when they consider it is time to talk. If we have good communication from an early age, it is likely that there will be very few topics that they do not want to talk about and that in the end they will turn to us. Taking into account that before being a friend we are parents and we must guide them and even establish limits when necessary.

We must be sincere, and recognize the mistakes we make, children follow our examples and act as they see how we do it. So when they make a mistake and even though they think it will not be to our liking, they will still tell us about it so we can help them find a solution to the problem. It may not always be possible to prevent them from making mistakes, but we must take into account that this can serve as a learning experience for them.

Finally, I believe that we must avoid, above all, conversations turning into arguments and fights. As adults, we must remain calm, listen, not raise our voices and let everyone present their opinions and reasons in order to reach an agreement.

It is important to encourage and take care of communication between parents and children, this will depend on the help we can give to our children so they can solve their problems.

Nowadays we see how many children and young people only focus on their phones, games and digital interactions and that is one of the reasons why families distance themselves and do not communicate. We must try to share with our children at meals, or just sit and talk with them so we can get to know them better, know their tastes and enjoy their company.
