Greetings to the whole community of steemit! 👋 after days without electricity and internet, I had not had the opportunity to share with you. But without turning the matter over, today I bring you a subject that personally impassions me!

Why?

So simple is it, to tell you that although I love to talk a lot at times when it comes to giving a speech or stopping to explain a topic if I do not feel comfortable or I'm not surrounded by familiar people it gives me a kind of scared fear or like We would say here in Venezuela "pena". That is why I want these tools that at the time the university offered me in a chair called legal oratory, you can use them to achieve "control" and I say that because it is natural to feel that fear when speaking in public .

Well, the first thing we should know and be very clear about is that when we talk about oratory, we do not refer to the mere fact of just talking to a certain person or a group of them, their concept goes further, involving a number of techniques, principles and rules that allow us to express ourselves clearly before a general public. When we use oratory, we allow ourselves to be led by the art of eloquence, it is to be able to transmit a message with ease, without fears or distrust, because its purpose is to persuade, convince and move others about a certain topic, opinion or point of view through discourse.

And you will ask:

What is the speech?

This is nothing more than that form of structured communication that the speaker has to reach his audience and convey an idea, which will be adapted according to its modality but having the same purpose as its essence.

Within the oratory there are different types of speeches, among which are:

  1. Academic or pedagogical discourse: it is used to transmit knowledge. It is a didactic or academic oratory that seeks to teach.
  2. Forensic Speech: Used within the legal science in order to clearly expose the reports of judges, lawyers and prosecutors.
  3. Religious discourse: It is preaching through the word of God using the Bible or other religious books as a basis.
  4. Political or persuasive speech: It is used by politicians who expose and debate political ideas, this type of discourse is widely used mainly during the voting period.
  5. Speech within a company, also called "Management Speaking": It is used by businessmen and businessmen in order to convey corporate objectives.

As I said before, what is essential is not the type of discourse, because the end is the same, what must be clear is its structure, for this we must keep in mind a major premise, minor premise and synthesis or in more colloquial a beginning; opening or introduction that will allow us to raise the issue, a mouth that will open to enter development; that is to say, to deepen on those ideas by means of data and arguments that demystify the knowledge that is had and finally a conclusion or end of the speech that has to include all the talk.

Fact: It is always good to conclude with a phrase or quote from an author that you think is worth mentioning because it influences to reflect.

Once we have all these clear points, we move forward to explain those qualities or skills that a speaker should have:

  • Speak clearly: Language is the main tool, but it must also be transmitted with enthusiasm, efficiency and persuasion.
  • Knowledge: Of course it is of vital importance to have knowledge to assume this role, because the oratory is 90% speaking and hardly any reading.
  • Credibility: This goes hand in hand with knowledge in order to convince the public, having a positive attitude, being relaxed and enjoying the scenery.
  • Dynamism: It is very important when projecting an idea, in order to achieve public attention.
  • Punctuality and good looks: These are key instruments.
  • Integrity: consonance of what is done with what is said.
  • And finally know the audience: A speaker must have prior knowledge about the space where he will be to feel more comfortable. In addition, it is important at this point to emphasize that knowing the audience involves knowing the public.

How does this work?

At this point not only verbal communication but also non-verbal communication that has to do with "paralinguistics" being those non-linguistic vocal aspects of the message, such as: the tone and quality of the voice, accent, rhythm, pauses, vocalizations, among others.

However, within the techniques to learn to overcome fear oratory are:

  1. Do not look people in the eyes at the moment of giving our speech.
  2. Use the fan technique: This basically refers to the rotating movement of the head to fix the attention of the public.

Technique of the ferocious wolf and the gentle lambs: It makes reference to the concentration and the idealization of which as speaker, you are the wolf that possesses all the necessary knowledge to transmit to the lambs that in this case is the public.
Finally, we must learn to identify our oratory fear, which can be presented: before, during or after the intervention, it is up to us to know when it occurs and to learn to control it. It is also advisable not to eat or eat heavy foods and make circular movements with the tongue or say some tongue twisters before a presentation.

I hope you like it and help them as much as I do. A thousand thanks for reading me and if you have any questions or anything else to contribute to this post that is useful, do not forget to comment 🙌
