ARE PACIFISTS IN EUROPE COWARDLY?
And I do not agree with various absolute pacifists who advocate unilateral disarmament for Ukraine and only nonviolent resistance against aggression. Even Gandhi said that he would prefer that oppressed people resist violently than that they do not resist at all.
But I think it is a mistake to attack the personal motives of people we disagree with. I don't know if Olga Karach is a coward or if any other pacifist is a coward. They are making a political mistake. If their program were carried out it would result in the destruction of the Ukrainian people and a world-wide victory for imperialist aggression. But that is not what they want .
Nor is it a bad thing to help army deserters from Russia, Belarus, or other Russian-bloc states, as pacifists do. It has a limited effect, but a good one. Yet I am not for organizing desertion from the Ukrainian army. While I am for conscientious objection as a right, I am against putting effort into weakening the Ukrainian armed forces at this time, when they are all that stands between the Ukrainian people and further mass death. (I would prefer a mass militia or partisan force organized by anarchists, but this is not what is immediately available.)
WHY DON'T WE ORGANIZE A
Why don't we organize a fundraiser to send Wayne to Ukraine? I'm sure the Ukrainian resistance would find his armchair strategic advice even more valuable to their struggle if he was there in the flesh to guide the troops towards victory. He could then post regular dispatches from the front on Anarchist News and after the war is over LBC could offer him a book deal.
