An open night soccer league kicked off this weekend. It includes the strongest age groups, although sometimes players who are still learning sneak in. We can also see veteran players who are there mainly to bring their experience to these teams. The important thing is that the tournament has begun—it was sorely needed because this is an area where the sport is widely played, and proof of that was the packed stands on this very first matchday.

Two local teams faced off: one is the current champion of the Santo Domingo league, a neighboring community where a highly competitive tournament is currently underway. The other team is made up of top-tier players, also from the area, but who are now in the final years of their careers in this age group.

As I mentioned, the stands were packed. I ran into the father of one of the players, who was very happy about the tournament’s opening and took the opportunity to boast that his son has always been a good player. The crowd included people of all ages—women, men, and young people—who were also taking the chance to get out of the house and enjoy something beyond social media.

El fin de semana comenzó una liga nocturna de fútbol libre, incluye a las categorías más fuertes por edades, aunque a veces se colan algunos jugadores que están en su proceso de aprendizaje, también podemos ver futbolistas con larga trayectoria y están más por aportar la experiencia a estos equipos. Lo importante es que se dió inicio al torneo, hacia mucha falta porque está es una zona donde se practica mucho está disciplina y la muestra fue que las gradas estaban llenas apenas en esta primera jornada.

Se enfrentaron dos equipos de la zona, uno es actual campeón de la liga de Santos Domingo, comunidad aledaña dónde se está realizando un torneo súper competitivo. El otro equipo está confirmado por jugadores de nivel, también de la zona pero que ya están en sus últimos años de actividad en esta categoría.

Las gradas como les dije, estaban llenas. Me encontré con el papá de uno de los jugadores y muy contento con la apertura del torneo y además aprovecho para hacer alarde de que su hijo siempre ha sido un buen jugador. Se observo público de todas las edades, mujeres, hombres y jóvenes que también aprovechan de venir, salir de casa y distraerse con algo más allá de las redes sociales.

Buenas noticias para el barrio. Esperemos se sigan sumando equipos y pues en las noches tendremos como opción disfrutar de estos bonitos espectáculos.
