If I had a hammer ||| Si tuviera un martillo
At a time when massive protests for justice are taking place in the U.S., it is good to remember a song that was a banner of struggle in that country for a long time. It's a composition by the great Pete Seeger, who was an icon of folk music and the struggle for human rights. A pacifist first and foremost. This song has been recorded many times and has always been a success. It has also been recorded in many other languages, including the Spanish version by the great Chilean singer-songwriter Victor Jara. For Spanish-speaking fans, I will include Jara's lyrics, which although not a literal translation, convey his essence.
This song is my entry for Hive Open Mic, week 8.
En momentos en que en Estados Unidos se est谩n llevando a cabo masivas protestas pidiendo justicia, es bueno recordar una canci贸n que fue bandera de lucha en ese pa铆s durante mucho tiempo. Es una composici贸n del gran Pete Seeger, quie fue un 铆cono de la m煤sica folk y de la lucha por los derechos humanos. Un pacifista ante todo. Esta canci贸n ha sido grabada en muchas oportunidad y ha sido siempre un 茅xito. Tambi茅n ha sido grabada en muchos otros idiomas, incluyendo la versi贸n en espa帽ol del gran cantautor chileno V铆ctor Jara. Para los seguidores de habla hispana, voy a incluir la letra de Jara, que aunque no es una traducci贸n literal, transmite su esencia.
