I believe that health care reform is the most important issue of our generation.
Donald Trump claimed to have a health care reform plan.
He didn't.
Because Trump was so loud in this false claim, Trump destroyed the ability to discuss the issue.
Because I believe that the GOP must‐at some point‐discuss health care reform, I campaigned against Trump during 2016.
This does not make me a Never Trumper.
When Trump won, I accepted that he was in charge and that attempts to discuss free market health care reform was futile.
Trump will be leaving office soon. The GOP is in shambles.
It is likely that Trump supporters will continue to suppress discussions of free market health care reform.
But there may be people brave enough to broach the issue; So, I decided to write my assessment of Trump.
Trump and his father were politically connected Democrats. Trump came of age during the Great Society of Lyndon B Johnson.
I suspect that Trump and his father were true believers in the Great Society. As insiders. It is likely that Trump noticed that the Great programs of the Great Society tended to benefit the ruling elite at the cost of the people.
As an insider, it is likely that Trump saw that the Great Programs of the Great Society were actually raw deals for the people at large.
My take is that Trump goal was to renegotiate the Great Programs of the Great Society. Renegotiating the great programs of the Great Society would Make America Great Again!
And you can put that slogan on a hat.
Trump successfully pulled millions of people out of the Democratic Party and into the GOP. This new ideology is called "Conservative Populism."
I believe that Trump is a better negotiator than most politicians. I believe that Trump truly negotiated on the part of the American people.
However, I believe that LBJ's Great Society was fundamentally wrong. Renegotiating the Great Society would not Make America Great Again.
But I had no option but to hold my tongue for four years.
I was not a never Trumper. I appreciate the man's negotiating skills and understood his style.
I was angry that he destroyed the Health Care Reform debate ... None of the other GOP candidates had a decent plan.
The only way to develop a health care reform plan is to debate the issue and the Republican Party is opposed to debating the issue.
The post Trump world has left the GOP in shambles.
I believe that the best path forward would be to develop a three pronged platform.
The first prog is Honest Monetary Reform.
The second prong is Health Care Reform.
The final prong is tax reform as the two previous issues actually demand a substantive change to tax laws.
The picture shows official (public domain) portraits of the two presidents who campaigned using the term "Great." I pulled the images from WikiCommons.
I thought about adding an image of a cartoon lion saying that sugar coated cereal is "Great" ... but that image has both a copyright and trademark.
