I am so very sorry. Just like I wrote in a song for my dog Kira, they do not leave, they are only one dream away.
And yes, I believe they know. My first dog Mimosa was the quietest most well behaved dog ever. Yet the day she died she would sneak inside which never did, ate left overs from the pantry which never did, and barked to call,she never barked ever before.
