It's been an emotional week for me, and I've found it hard to get much done, but life continues and I know that very well.

Having moved here to be chosen by this angel was one of the best gifts life has given me. I remember her barking outside our door, asking to come inside, and the wife and I wondering if the owner would mind. My uncle, who lives four houses down had been given this dog as a gift himself, but she wanted to live with us.

Reluctantly my wife and I let her stay the night in our couch, and the rest is history. After that our sweet Alice was always with us, right by our feet, ready to attack us with her lethal licks of love.

I had feared falling in love with her from the beginning, I have to say. For one, I knew that she was up in her years and needed special care, but I also didn't want to feel like I took her from my uncle and his kids. Nonetheless it wasn't up to me, in the end she made up her mind and that was it, we were her humans.

I don't know if dogs know when they are going to leave us for sure, but it seems like she knew. The morning she left us, she tried escaping, so to speak, would not answer my calls for breakfast, which led me to run around the farm until I found her. Immediately I knew there was something off, and rushed her to a vet.

All we could do was to keep her warm as she faded away... her heart was failing, and she could not keep her eyes open.

I trust she knew how much I loved her, and that she could feel me holding her the whole time...

I'm so grateful to her... I have to say. She not only gave me so much joy, so much love, but also left me with three pups... three crazy things that in many ways keep her alive, keep her with us.

I'm a bit of a mess right now... but I wanted to put this on my blog for some reason... I wanted to add to the story of my life, the short story of my sweet Alice....
