Have you ever viewed a school of fish or flock of birds in
their beautiful and natural form of action and rest? They
move in an organized way that is not random. Fish and
bird groups move and change direction as a group
decision and rely on each other as a team and react as
a democratic group.
It probably requires the use of bullet-time photography
to be able to view and study the behavior and also
the process of their movements and their group
behavior. I call it "natural democracy" or even the
"animal democracy" and there may be better terms
available for this democracy of the animal kingdom
that will become more appropriate and politically correct
if needed in the future.
These animal groups, schools of fish and flocks of birds
have an interesting and very quick way of choosing or
making the decision of the direction that they will travel
from split-second to half-second. That very fast change
of direction is not random. We need very high-speed
photography to view this group behavior and to study
it. Perhaps, their smaller brains take advantage of a
shorter and faster route between sections of their
brains.
There is a threshold or number of individuals within a
group, school of fish or flock of birds that may be around
49% or 50% where these groups have already noticed
that there is a change to a majority and then act on it.
These groups then react quickly to the change of
direction and movement. The group may not know there
is a predator. They act in response to each other or
"trust" the neighbors within their group.
I have always wanted to call this group effect a form
of "democracy" because it involves local groups, but
is a common behavior observed in other groups of
animals and is NOT limited to humans.
In the future, I hope to study this more, but I dont have
time or resources now. I believe that democracy is
more natural than republicanism and therefore democracy
is better for long term survival than a republic is today.
