Y me brotan estás décimas:
En la penumbra senil
se guarda un eco profundo,
un ardid del moribundo
que se muestra más hostil.
Vota el cuerpo ya frágil,
mi memoria es un candil.
El lamento fiel persiste
cuando es más nulo el alpiste.
Y saltar no es precavido,
es lealtad a lo perdido.
Gracias por su visita...!!

Greetings, esteemed Hive Cuba users!
✯ ✯ ✯
I recently received a visit from a childhood friend who lives in the United States. As we toured the shops together—all privately owned, since the state-run stores have lost that capacity—he exclaimed in surprise:
“But you can find everything here!”
My immediate response was:
“Yes, but at a very high social cost.”
Inflation is like an octopus that extends its tentacles without sparing anyone. In our case, it continues to climb, generating a climate of uncertainty that permeates every corner, every depth of the home where the hope of the Cuban family beats.
Just yesterday, three young men arrived from the neighboring town of Jiguaní in a horse-drawn cart (fuel costs over $2,000.00 per liter) with a considerable load of tomatoes. Many locals stopped to look, admiring their color and freshness, but unable to buy any. The price, although lower than elsewhere, was still sky-high: $100.00.
Among the buyers, I was touched by a graceful young woman, a descendant of a family I know well, who, instead of prostituting herself—like others—resists. She approached the vendor and, almost in a whisper, asked:
“Give me a pound” [that's equivalent to about three tomatoes].
I confess what I later told my wife:
“That's why I'm no good at that. My indulgent nature would lead me to give her at least three or four more tomatoes.”
And these verses spring to me:
In the senile twilight, a deep echo is kept, a trick of the dying man, who appears most hostile. The already fragile body votes, my memory is a lamp. The faithful lament persists when the birdseed is most empty. And jumping is not cautious, it is loyalty to what is lost.
Thank you for your visit...!!
