Nice day friends of the Weekend Experiences community. A new week, a new weekend-engagement, always with very interesting topics. This week I was captivated by one question in particular.
鉁揥hat have you tried but given up on in life. Explain it, why you gave up and how you would have gained from it, and what you lost by not following throught.
Try, learn, abandon. It is a cycle that we repeat throughout our lives. Since we were little we discovered countless passions, but not all of them are cultivated seriously. Who hasn't dreamed of being an actress, astronaut or archaeologist? As children we live in a constant fantasy and we discover many of our preferences at a young age. Then these passions will accompany us for the rest of our days, even if we do not develop them to their fullest expression. In my case, I discovered my passion for table tennis when I was 9 years old. My primary school was near a gym where that sport was practiced. One day the table tennis teacher came to my classroom and called on all the children to join that sport. The teacher's name is Oscar and he made an appointment for all the children in the classroom to show up very early at the gym for the recruitment. I remember being dazzled when I entered the place. The coach showed us every detail of the place and told us the origin of table tennis.
The coach conveyed passion in his narration, and after several years, I still remember that day with great emotion. This is how I entered the world of sports. As a table tennis athlete, I participated in several local competitions and at 11 years old I participated in a national competition. I really loved being an athlete and dreamed of being an Olympic champion. I was a girl with huge dreams.馃槀馃槀馃槀. I can't deny that I had certain abilities as an athlete. That's why, when I finished primary school, the teacher went to my family to ask for their permission. He wanted me to continue my studies at a sports school.
My mother, a wise woman with sharp vision, explained to the professor that she felt very grateful for the opportunity he offered me, but my future would be more promising if I studied a university profession. At that moment I did not understand why they rejected that opportunity that life offered me, but I obediently accepted the decision of my elders. My mother has always convinced me of her decisions with solid arguments. He explained to me that I had to study, that my life couldn't depend only on sports, because if one day I got injured. How was I going to support myself as an adult? However, if I became a qualified professional there would always be financial benefits and multiple doors would open in my life. Honestly, he convinced me and today I am eternally grateful for it. From that moment on, I continued to be involved in sports for 2 more years, but I dedicated all my efforts to being a good student. That's how I entered the Faculty of Dentistry and became a dentist. During my university studies I debuted with a disease called Hereditary Microspherocytosis, although I am in very good health, the Hematologist imposed restrictions on physical activity. At that moment the words of my mother came to mind, who, with her ability to anticipate the future, foresaw this event.
Today I don't do many sports, because I prefer to be healthy. However, I support myself with dignity through my profession. If you ask me what I lost, the answer is that I only won. I learned a sport that I really like. Although I don't practice it, if I find a table on my way I don't miss the opportunity to enjoy it, even if it's just 5 minutes. I learned a profession that I am proud of and gained a different vision of the world. I understood that if a door closes, leave it that way, because another much better one will open for you.
