古代在险要的地方设置的守卫处所叫作“关”。
巩密关，古代的将士守土关隘，地处河南省新密市尖山乡，它是巩义到新密或新密到巩义的一个关隘。在此关东边，山势急速下坠，向东过了几个低矮丘陵就是一望无际的黄淮平原；在此关西边，是连锦起伏的五指岭。
