The enhanced community quarantine here in Cebu should initially end in 3 days, on April 14, but it was extended until end of the month. Even with the extension, there's still no assurance that everything will go back to normal after the quarantine finally is lifted. Without mass testing, I will not be at ease. Everyone should still be wary and not be complacent.
When corona ends, I'll resign from my current job. I think that will be the first order of business. I really thought I had the privilege, but I ended up just like every corporate slave in the world. I will find a company that values its employees more than its profits. I really envy those employees who were offered to work from home, no work but with pay, or those given assistance by their companies.
My company's human capital department is slow to almost ineffective. Before the enhanced community quarantine, while we were still working, but we exposed ourselves during our commute. They said that they will provide transportation, but they just kept on saying everything's still ongoing negotiation. Other companies have already made it possible, I just can't understand why ours couldn't.
They said they're having a meeting. They kept on having a meeting, almost whole day everyday, but we couldn't feel any action. If the post about the situation in MEPZ didn't go viral, they would not be pressured to provide transportation for their employees. Everything's so bureaucratic that actions don't come as fast as they should be.
I don't want to be part of a company that mirrors the government in terms of its actions. They can't expect my full performance anymore. It's best for both parties to depart. They have lost my trust that they will look after us. It's not that they should be, but there are companies that did their best for their employees and I want to be part in that company.
When work will resume, the very first thing that I should do is hand down my resignation letter. It's not an easy decision, but I already consulted my parents about this. They are okay with it. I don't want to be a corporate slave anymore, at least for a while.
When corona ends, I'll travel more. I realized I haven't travelled enough. I wanted my day to be always memorable and I think the way to do that is to be on the road without any specific destination ahead. I wanted to fulfill my long time dream and that is to do solo travel. I wanted to be independent and be accountable of the consequences of my actions so I think this will be a great avenue for me to do that.
With the uncertainty of life, I will treat it like it's my last day of this world. I realized that I haven't done much that makes me happy. I always complain about almost anything, but I did nothing about it. I'll travel to places I dreamed of going. I'll promote Cebu and the Philippines more. I'll watch more sunrises and sunsets. I'll explore lesser known beaches and coves. I'll climb mountains and trek on hills. I'll live outdoors.
There's so much to do and we have less time than we expect we have. We sometimes even take everything for granted.
The coronavirus exposed how wretched the society we are in. It amplifies the inequalities and inequities. It laid bare the disparity between the rich and the poor. It became the great amplifier of the modern world. The world's richest can afford to stay at home even for a year without worrying about their food, but the majority are poor enough that they worry on what to eat the next day.
I will be mindful of my thoughts and opinions. I'll make sure that they are sensitive enough to consider those who are less fortunate. Because we are nestled in our privileges that we often forget to go out there and see what's really happening. We often make insensitive remarks because our view has been very myopic. We failed to see the bigger picture. I don't want that kind of view anymore.
I will continue to speak up and raise my voice whenever I see inequalities. I will continue to demand transparency and accountability from those who hold positions in the government. I will use my blog as a platform for me to be heard. I just hope that I won't be censored because of my views and opinions, that's why I'm posting on a blockchain and not just in any conventional blogging platform.
When corona ends, I will probably make a feature series that will showcase the culture of the Philippines or I will study to pursue my masters degree. There are a lot of options and I still have no idea on what to do once everything has been settled in my work. Pursuing a degree in environmental science would also be a good choice. Studying big data science and statistics is also a good choice if we're talking about career options in the future. Pursuing a degree in writing and language is also a sound choice.
There are a lot of things to do and I'm not sure if I can do all of those, but one thing is sure for me and that is to never stop learning and improving myself.
