Yup, I failed to mention that it is only lunar calendar and few other things due to miss-click-publish thing.
But Ramadan is not the start of their new year, it's just the month of fasting. (The 9th month actually, Muharram -which means "forbidden"- is the 1st of their new year)
Generally speaking, the adaptation of calendars lunar/solar or a mix depended on the area, you can't do agriculture (which they didn't care about in their original area) with lunar calendar, for example.
But yeah, thanks for all that info about the indian calendar, it's a very interesting one, I had no clue about most of what you mentioned about it.
Not sure what you mean there. I am not familiar with Gregorian Calendar's history.
I'll leave that for another place to talk about. 😁
