Good night or good morning everyone, hope u all doing great.
This Ocean Healer fan art came out of a pretty chill session, no pressure and no super rigid plan from the start. I just wanted to sit down, draw, enjoy the process, and see what would slowly come together, instead of chasing a specific final result from minute one.
Ocean Healer is a character that always caught my attention because of the design and how well it works visually. I didnβt try to reinterpret it too much, just keep its essence and bring it into my own style in a natural way, without forcing anything.
The whole piece was done in Corel Painter, live during a Blaze stream. That made the process feel very honest, because what you saw on screen was exactly what was happening, decisions included, in real time.
Working live definitely changes how you draw. There isnβt much room to overthink things, so you just move forward, adjusting values, colors, and details as you go.
I tried to keep the style clean, focusing on light and volume without overloading the image. The goal was for the portrait to feel balanced and easy to read, not packed with effects just for the sake of it.
While drawing, I was also chatting, and that really affects the rhythm of the work. The process becomes more relaxed and less technical, which IMO helps the final piece feel more natural.
Sessions like this are a good reminder that not everything has to be perfect from the start. There are tweaks, changes, and small fixes along the way, and thatβs all part of the process.
Ocean Healer worked really well for this calmer approach. Itβs a character that lets you take your time and build the image without needing to exaggerate expressions or elements.
More than the fan art itself, what I enjoy most about these streams is sharing the process. Showing how an illustration comes together, with both mistakes and good calls, is a big part of drawing live.
