En cuanto me dijo proyecto sociocultural me dije: qué bien, no he perdido mi tiempo.

Today I ran out of my house, I thought I would be late for college classes. I walked as fast as my feet would carry me. I tried not to stop to greet people I knew so as not to waste time. I found a city waking up, with the laziness of the cool temperatures that had just arrived. A recent change in the weather meant that the intense heat of previous days had given way to a delightful temperature to stay in bed.
So I had to hurry up quite a bit. I usually take pictures of the street, the people, the flowers. Today I went out with no time for that, I almost turned off my phone so as not to entertain myself. So much haste ended when I saw in the Casa de Cultura a portal full with an exhibition of rag dolls, aprons, Christmas decorations. In front of the exhibition were some beautiful ladies explaining, talking to passersby and also taking advantage of the time knitting and handmade some pieces.
Then I definitely stopped to chat with one lady. She kindly assisted me and it turns out that she is a native of my hometown. There we talked then about family, friends we know, she showed me her family photos. We then talked about her work as a seamstress and weaver. She told me that she spent more than 30 years working as an economist. She finally retired and tried to give meaning to her life so as not to stay at home in charge of running errands.
She recalled that when she was a teenager her sister taught her to knit and embroider. That practice had long been stored in her brain until it became necessary. Then she joined a socio-cultural project called "On Needles". As soon as she told me about the sociocultural project I said to myself: good, I haven't wasted my time. It turns out that the subject I teach at the university is called Sociocultural management of sociocultural projects. So I agreed with the women to take my students to meet them and have them explain what their activities are all about.
Then the lady explained to me the materials they use, as well as the products they can make. Rag dolls, aprons, cell phone cases, sets of handles for the kitchen, ornaments for Christmas trees, ornaments for the refrigerator, fruit and many other things.
Talking with the lady was good for me, it helped me to appreciate the people who make crafts. I wanted to take home a big doll about the size of a one year old girl. The truth is that I didn't have the money for a big doll, but at least I bought a woven case to keep my cell phone in. I loved her promoter's attitude, she explained everything and introduced me to her colleagues.
I admire them a lot so I asked them if they give classes to learn how to make handicrafts. They told me that during school vacations they give courses and workshops. I was delighted, I went running to the University a little happier. I told my students and we arranged a visit to see the weaving and embroidery grandmothers.
I am going to raise some money to buy dolls. There are blondes or mulattoes, big or small. Little witches or angels. I asked for permission to take pictures of the pieces and promised to come back, they sent me away very happy. I was grateful for the opportunity that came my way, luckily I was not late. The students were waiting for me.
