Today is Fathers' Day and memories, photos, songs come and go through the social networks, phone lines and many of those messages rise to the sky. May it be a 365-day love and not just one. May there be more body to body hugs and more handshakes than postcards sailing. May no one ever have to be far from their good father.
I hope there are no lonely fathers shipwrecked in the memory of their children, nor children saddened by an absent father. I tried to greet some of the dads I love the most as soon as it was noon and Sunday began, and as the day progresses it becomes more evident that my dad is no longer here and a strong feeling that prevents me from thinking and writing lucidly creeps in.
@nanixxx,
@mipiano, también el amigo
@yordi99.
So no more messages, I only have reason left for my tenths that are not the best but it's the best way to tell my dad that I miss him and love him very much. I share them with you #hive friends, especially with my uncle
@elflaco52,
@eduardo900613. And the friends who kindly enjoy my verses
@nanixxx,
@mipiano, also the friend
@yordi99.
Padre :
Crecí escuchando el guajiro
cantar de mi padre bueno,
tejiendo versos sereno
en su taburete, al retiro.
Cierro los ojos, lo miro,
recuerdo cada cuarteta,
las guardo aquí en la gaveta
de mi pecho, al lado izquierdo.
Estudio, viajo y no pierdo
la herencia de aquel poeta.
Cantaba, siempre cantaba.
Tal vez ahogaba una pena
o alegraba la faena
con las rimas que entonaba.
Casi nunca improvisaba
disfrutaba la visita
de alguna décima escrita,
en rimas andaba inmerso.
Prefería viajar en verso
que montado en su yegüita.
En noches de carboneros
que al Cucalambé llamaban
Justo o Adolfo llegaban
para hacer de compañeros.
Cuando los rayos primeros
alumbraban la veguita
del carbón por la exquisita
serenata de la noche
sacaba su negro broche,
pastoreando su vaquita.
Una tonada guajira
lo vio nacer en el monte.
Otras en el horizonte
luchar, buscar a su amada.
Trabajar casi por nada,
no más que alguna peseta.
Su refugio: un buen poeta.
Cantando ya su partida
se despidió de la vida
entonando una cuarteta.
Mi padre a mí me dormía
con décimas de su abuela.
Esa fue una buena escuela
de amor y de poesía.
Aunque él mucho no sabía
de métrica y de oraciones
yo escuchaba sus canciones
me acurrucaba en su pecho,
el sueño quedaba hecho
escuchando sus pasiones.
Father :
I grew up listening to the guajiro
singing of my good father,
weaving serene verses
on his stool, in his retirement.
I close my eyes, I look at him,
I remember each quatrain,
I keep them here in the drawer
of my chest, on my left side.
I study, I travel and I do not lose
the heritage of that poet.
He sang, he always sang.
Maybe he drowned a sorrow
or cheered up the task
with the rhymes he intoned.
He almost never improvised
he enjoyed the visit
of some written tenth,
he was immersed in rhymes.
He preferred to travel in verse
than riding his little mare.
On nights of charcoal burners
who called Cucalambé
Justo or Adolfo arrived
to act as companions.
When the first rays
illuminated the veguita
of the charcoal for the exquisite
serenade of the night
she took out her black brooch,
herding her little cow.
A guajira tune
saw him born in the bush.
Others on the horizon
fighting, searching for his beloved.
Working for almost nothing,
no more than a few peseta.
His refuge: a good poet.
Already singing his departure
he said goodbye to life
intoning a quatrain.
My father used to put me to sleep
with his grandmother's tenths.
That was a good school
of love and poetry.
Although he didn't know much
of metrics and sentences
I listened to his songs
I would snuggle in his chest,
the dream was made
listening to his passions.

Añoranza:
Padre, mi padre, mi amigo
cuánto este día quisiera
abrazarte y que pudiera
compartir mi amor contigo.
Correr de nuevo a tu abrigo
contarte, pedir consejo,
reír contigo mi viejo
que vieras al nieto tuyo
y te llenaras de orgullo
al encontrar tu reflejo.
Te me fuiste tan deprisa,
que a penas pude abrazarte.
Corrí no pude alcanzarte
te llevaste mi sonrisa.
Aquí quedó tu camisa,
un pantalón un consejo,
tu máquina en el espejo
tu ejemplo de hombre bueno
tu verso alegre y sereno.
¡Ay mi querido viejo!
Homesickness:
Father, my father, my friend
how much this day I wish
to embrace you and that I could
share my love with you.
To run again to your shelter
to tell you, to ask for advice,
to laugh with you my old man
that you would see your grandson
and be filled with pride
to find your reflection.
You left me so quickly
I could barely embrace you.
I ran I couldn't reach you
you took my smile with you.
Here's your shirt,
a pair of pants, a piece of advice,
your machine in the mirror
your example of a good man
your cheerful and serene verse.
Oh my dear old man!
